Well folks… here I am at last! I thought I’d better let you know what’s been happening since the last Natural Yogurt Band album. Well, I’ve been locked away working on new material for what will be my first solo album. It’s took a while to get everything together as it’s a new concept for me working on songs alone and not co-writing everything with someone else (although there are some songs written with Simon Brown and Miles Newbold).
February saw the first sessions begin at The Chicken Shack Recording Studio in Nottingham, a favourite haunt of mine for recording and home of my fellow comrade Miles Newbold of The Natural Yogurt Band. It’s always comfortable working with Miles as he is able to make you feel relaxed and get the best results, and uses only vintage analogue equipment for recording.
We’ve reworked some demos that I’ve had around for a year or so that needed finishing and recorded some new tracks in the last four weeks. We’ve been so productive and creative it’s amazing! I’ve had the help of two old friends Simon Brown (Bass) and Martin Pilkington (Guitar) and Miles on keys and flute. I don’t want to give too much away but I’m really excited about some of the sounds we’re getting and how the songs are turning out.
As always there is a huge soul and blues influence with my music with beats and grooves, but other things have crept in too that make it a hotchpotch of crazy sounds!
I’ll try and make regular updates every week or so as we go along. We’re over halfway there with the album, completed vocals on a track today and we’ll be putting down more backing tracks tomorrow, then off to London for a few days to catch up with friends and have a well earned break….
Anyway that’s all for now,
Peace and Love
